Ticks is a past Australian o50’s Champion, but this is his first title win at the very competitive NSW SurfMasters State Titles event, held at the always beaut Boomerang Beach.
With small clean conditions and tricky banks for the whole comp, the event was plagued by about 5 shark stoppages in its 5 days. Unfazed though and always an energetic and competitive animal, Tickle was on true form chasing down anything ridable and maximising every inch of the fast then fading waves. He progressed through about 10 heats in both the o50 and 055 divisions over the 5 days. In true Tickle fashion, he kept his best for last though, starting the heat with a big vertical close-out turn right on the buzzer that put the rest of the field on notice, followed by a long ride that kept on giving all the way to the sand. It was too much for the other competitors, leaving them way behind in the pointscore, and an epic NSW Title coming back to Queeny.
