Masters SurfTag semifinal finish

The SurfTag series has been a heap of fun, and this weekend it was the Masters who took on the best in surfing’s team event series. The Masters is arguably the most entertaining event, with 🙂 ‘primed’ ex-World Champs and ‘still-ripping’ local frothers having a go.

Our team of Lorne, Alex, Ryan, Tappy and Ox represented QBC in the over-40’s event, showing creativity and grit against some stacked teams. Everyone stood up with individual performances in less-than-perfect South Curly conditions, showing advanced experience and flare. Ryan’s choice to surf an alternative bank in the repocharge round was a gamble that paid off as he lay down some solid scores to consolidate QBC on top of Lorne and Alex’s start, and put QBC in the Semi.

It was awesome to see QBC President – Ox – back in the jersey representing QBC and laying down some signature power hacks.

As conditions deteriorated, Tappy took charge and was all fire in the semi-final, and though Ox had grabbed the bonus points for a neck and neck finish, Longy ended up advancing to the final on their final wave score. We’d been pipped. Ah well.

The team would like to thank chief strategist Kyle Williams for confusing even the most seasoned competitors.

QBC are now in a solid 3rd position in the SurfTag series going into the final Men’s Open Division event, taking place this coming weekend.

Let’s get all you Gumbys down to Queeny on 1 October to support the QBC team – we’re a very good chance for the podium finish for the whole SurfTag series.
