SurFebruary was a massive success in 2023, with the QBC team raising over $8300. That money goes straight to cancer research through the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
We finished off the month with a fundraiser comp which I think will need to be an annual event.
The format was simple – 1 hour, 1 massive hack, competed between the SurFebruary team and 10 QBC invitees. The $10 entry fee plus $250 (from an anonymous QBC legend) goes to the winner’s SurFebruary account. And to sweeten, there was a late donation of $50 for the biggest air.
We all rocked up to Queeny amongst the clubby setup expecting not-much, but it was 4ft+ and pumping walls.
The Hack-off hour had it all. J-ho was on fire, the Mrak brothers were on, Vo was on every bomb, and Jack Mac spent more time in the air than in the water. Cav and WaveRat judged, and they reckoned it was hard to choose the winner. In the end, fun was the winner, along with Zac and his huge hack.
[We’re waiting for Tyler’s video to go here so you can see all the waves! – check it on INSTAGRAM]

Azza Amavisca is looking after QBC ‘community engagement’, and setting us up in SurFebruary was part of the plan. Massive achievement from everyone to raise that significant amount of money. The top-5 fundraisers will now compete as QBC’s team in the Lifeline Cup later in the year.
