Gumby interviewed froth-dad and QBC Committee member, Aaron ‘Azza’ Amavisca for the Benches just before he headed off to the Ments for 2 weeks of barrels.
Here’s what he had to say.
Name, Age & current QBC division?
Hi, my name is Aaron Amavisca and I’m 41. I surf in the Over 40’s Aging High Performance division at QBC.
How many years have you been in QBC?
Ooof, I got in the year after I moved to Aus so that’d be about 13yrs!
What’s your best Queeny surfing memory?
Getting an absolute beast left hand barrel in the May comp 2021. The conditions were all time Queeny and not only was I able to nab my best wave at Queeny ever but I got to do it in a comp, in front of the peanut gallery, and scored a perfect 10! Life memory!
What is your favorite QBC moment?
My first weekend trip away with QBC circa 2010. It was a Boomerang weekend away with Timbo, Guy Coveley, Wave Rat, Marvo, Beau Alagich, and Jake E. Small crew but we had absolutely pumping surf, rad hangs, and got my feet into QBC.
What board are you riding at the moment?
Oh man, I’ve been having a shocking quiver moment – but am finding my rhythm again on my dad bod dimensions Psillakis Hipster 5’11
Who is the biggest gumby?
Wave Rat. He was such an integral part of me feeling welcomed by the crew when I joined QBC. He’s also an epic example of what a QBC member is and that’s the kinda legend you want the future generations to mirror and look up to.
Queeny Right Shorey or Queeny Left Shorey?
QRS all day! (Lefts are only for Barrels, see above!).
Finish this sentence:
Gumby loves……people who care.

You’re in charge of community engagement at QBC. What’s the plan?.
The plan is to organise opportunities throughout the year for the Club to come together across all age divisions and do some fun stuff that can support our local community and strengthen our Club community – through what we all love, surfing! (Massive props to Ox who’s been such an inspo in this space.)
We kicked it off with SurFebruary, which was so incredible with how the Club participated in the event and raised funds for cancer research. Members and family across all the divisions came together backing and participating with the Club through the whole month. It was so rad.
