In what will go down in the history books as an epic win, the u14 boys have taken the gong in the 2023 Guzman Y Gomez Grommet SurfTag.
The team of Luke Silver, Hunter Sutcliffe, Jordi Bray, Eli Clarke and Saxon Goodwin were unbeaten in the comp, gaining momentum throughout in challenging overhead and wind affected conditions.
Hunter Sutcliffe scored a very critical 8 pointer in the Quarter, and Jordi scored a 14.14 power wave in the final on a Hail Mary closeout holding on by his toenails. Each of our boys stepped up at different points in the event, all scoring solidly and making it a real team effort. Notably no other team was anywhere near as fast as QBC – in every heat we finished well before the other teams for the 4pt bonus. Great TagTeam strategy.
The final came down to the wire, but in end the Grommet Gumbys were too good for North Av, Longy and North Shelly, with beachside maths by Gooch confirming that QBC took the win. And gumbys went WILDDDD.
Well done too to the U18 team of Jack Mac, Barc Sutcliffe, Jordi, Hunter, and Max Lechner who made the semi-finals in that division.
Thanks all the QBC Gumby’s who came down to support our teams, and coach Gezza for doing what Gezza does. It was a such an epic weekend.
